2009 KLX 250 EFI UK Model - Best Mods.
#22
Hey Yankee, no, not done the cam mod yet. I have spoken about it at length with my mechanic friends but have not got round to it yet, been too busy doing all the other mods. Plus I've heard it won't work or you dont get the benefit if you go big bore.
I am now thinking that 300cc is the way to go in the big bore plan. I know you will be thinking, what, you crazy boy but hear me out.
I can buy a KLX 300cc piston kit for £100, I have found a company close to me that will bore out my cylinder to the 300cc piston for about £50 and I can then buy the EJK controller for about £130, That is £280 to £300 in cost, which is not bad really in the grand scheme of things.
To buy the 331 kit with shipping will cost about £500 - £550 whcih does start to get to crazy money territory. (not for me, but I have one of those women things that tells me off for spending all my money on tat )
My other reason is that if the 331 cyclinder goes BOOM at some point, I have to buy another 331 kit costing the same amount of crazy money. If the 300cc goes, all parts are replaceble easily.
I would rather have the 331 kit but logic is saying otherwise.
But, do we know if there is anywhere I could just get a 331 piston kit? If so I could just rebore my cylinder in the UK to 331 and it would still be much cheaper than buying the full kit.
Thoughts?

KK use a brand new klx300 barrel anyway, so all you have to do is get a new 300 jug bored out & nicasil plated & you've got a KK D.I.Y big bore kit.

If it can be done thats great! I have to assume your mechanic is competent. I would have thought a sleeve might be required. The KK is around 700usd plus shipping but you keep your original jug and piston.
I suggest the cam mod as it is virtually free and can be done in several hours. Also after the cam mod you might be satisfied with the power.

Awesome Joel, thanks.
The great thing is when I look on the Wossner site contact info, they are based in the UK so postage should be buttons. They dont advertsise this particular piston on the site as it must be made specifically for KK but I am sure I could get one made to the same dimensions by them.
Now with regards the jug, I was planning to get my current 250 Cylinder bored out to 330. I dont want to buy a new 300 cylinder to bore out as the cylinder itself carries the most cost involved with doing the big bore.
Is it general consensus that a 300 clylinder is needed or have 250 cylinders been bored to 330 previously. I would imagine they have as Bill Blue wanted my cylinder if he supplies a kit.
I would also nacasil the barrel or sleeve if needed. The company that would complete the boring use the piston as measurement to get it to exact levels. They would also advise on the sleeving side of things.

I think the 250 jug needs a sleeve for strength when boring out to 331 or 351.
KK use the new klx300 jug because it is only bored out & nicasil coated not sleeved! I got the KK because it runs cooler being all aluminum & I think the water jacket has more room to flow.
Experts feel free to chime in on 250 & 300 jugs with dry sleeve & wet sleeve stuff!!

Damn, that Zeta guard does not fit my 2010 EFI. Wierd, the swing arm has different mounts to your bike.
