Default 2009 kickstarter, footpeg issue

Well for those of you that want to install a kickstarter on your 2009+ bike I have found a problem. I have a kickstarter on my bike. It came that way from the dealer. You can search for the install pics and part numbers on this site to find a couple of great write ups. Those installs were done on the old 2006/2007 model bikes. The footpeg mount is different on those bikes than on the 2009 model as I just found out, the very hard way.

So I bent the hell out of my footpeg mount in a desert race last month. Ordered a new one for my 2009. The new one arrived today from Babbits and is much different. The OEM 2009 peg does not allow the kickstart to travel down. It sits much closer to the engine.

Check out the pic.

So can someone please verify for me that the 2009+ bikes use the close mount foot peg mount? I am going to have to order the 2007 peg (same part # as the klx300) now. I can see in the pics that the dealer installed the 2007 peg mount on my 2009.

Also included a pic of the flush mount Baja Designs blinker I installed to repair another bit of crash damage.

This problem was brought up in a prior kickstart install on 2009 thread. The solution was as you figured out; 2009 with kickstart needs 2007 peg mount.

I must have missed that one. The important thing is that you verified that I need the 2007 peg mount for my 2009 with kickstart. This mistake will cost me a bit.

So much info (most of it good) in this forum it can be hard to get it all. I just happened to remember reading the footpeg thing quite awhile ago. Don't recall who posted it, but it was the first (or almost first) member to do the kickstart install on a '09. There was a lot of prior discussion over whether or not the kick install kit would work in '09s and up or if it was for '07 and down only. It's still on the list of may-dos for my '09.

Don't buy new! I've gotten that footpeg mount off ebay for under $30 shipped. Anyone from 97+ KLX300 will work.

Good luck.

I don't use ebay. I'll be swapping with babbits and eating some cost for the mistake.

Mostly because I don't do paypal. I also don't like the criminals, and worrying about being scammed. Many folks do use ebay and I've bought and sold things on ebay but only cash deals and large purchases (a bulldozer and an XR500).

A preference.
