That's the part I just ordered... I hope it's right.

There should be no other pieces needed... you will re-use the stock locking washer. Just be sure to bend a different tab over, not the same one the factory did.

You never want to bend the same tab twice.

H3ll, I don't know. There's more than one way to skin that cat. I doubt the engineers toil over these decisions very much. Do we use adjuster "A" or adjuster "B" on this year's design? Call up Inventory Control and see what we have the most of. Decision made.
Oh but they will get toiled over on the klxforums

You guys do realize you are arguing about a chain tension device right.

It's not like we are argueing the importance of snelling a hook using florocarbon vs a direct tie knot using mono. ..... lol

Us phisher men may argue about stupid stuff but damn this takes the cake....lol

I have rented an old honda and had to do a tire change on the spot....it had the screw tension thing worked fine....on my klx I really like the notched gizmo they got on the back....it's easy.

The real question is ............. does the new 09 klx with the new gearing really NEED a gear reduction......A Ride Report Would Be Nice.....note: If IGposts.....pics of his speedo and tach will be required ... lol .

only gear that was changed was 6th and I've posted numerous times that I was happy with the stock gearing. But was under pressure to install this sprocket so I did. I posted a pretty lengthy ride report over on fourstrokeworks.com website. A pic of the tach will not happen. Come on over and you can check it out yourself though. I'm sure Brian can figure out the gearing ratios now and the rpms at a given speed if you asked him to vs. an '06 or '07.

Interesting, most of us 06-07 riders (I believe lol) changed to lower gearing because of the high ratio in 6th.... allthough second was way more fun with the lower gears

Are YOU going to switch back to the stock sprocket? btw you are a big boy and we never made you do nuthin.

Like Brian said, the threaded tensioners tend to seize up over the years... Aluminum swingarm + steel bolts + time + dirt + water = stuck threads..
It's a sub-standard design. They f-ed up and I can't imagine why... The snails are just idiot proof and pretty much un-seizeable.
Someone who's worked on old MX'ers would know this...

I do like the look of your machine though... Red isn't 'gay' ..

I've got the information for the 06/07. Do you have the gear ratios for the 09? I also need the primary drive ratio, i.e., the crank to the clutch. On the '06, this was 84/30 for a primary ratio of 2.8. You might need to look at a parts fische and see how many teeth are on the crank/clutch gearing to figure out the primary. I'm guessing this didn't change between the 06/07 vs the 09, but you never know.

primary drive- 2.800; 84/30
overall drive ratio- 8.000 top gear
gear ratios- 3.000 (30/10); 2.000 (30/15); 1.500 (27/18); 1.250 (25/20); 1.050 (21/20); 0.952 (20/21)
I think they're all the same as the '06 except for the last one.

Looks like it, just one more tooth on the '09 for 6th gear giving it a slightly higher ratio. With the 13 tooth sprocket, that makes the overall top gear ratio 8.609, which was 8.175 on the '06/7. So without the 13 tooth sprocket, keeping your 14, your top gear ratio was right at 8.0, not too far off what the 13 tooth does for the '06 on the top gear. All other gears the same, though.

Personally, if I had my choice, I would have had them go the other way. There were lots of times when I was looking for 7th gear. I prefer a wider transmission.

yep, that explains why I was happy with it stock. the reason you were looking for 7th was because your bike was way more powerful than stock. in stock trim it wouldn't pull 6th at all, that's the reason they lowered it for '09 I'm betting. they could've just kept the ratios the same but uppped the power around 10 horse and been done with it. I guess installing a reground piece was easier than squeezing more power out of the smothered engine though.
