2009/10 KLX250SF/D-Tracker X passenger footpegs misalignment?!
Hi guys, I wonder if you can help solve this puzzle and perhaps report a manufacturing flaw! If you have a KLX250SF or D-Tracker X, please check you bike
A journalist here in Brazil is doing a 100 days test on a 2009/10 D-Tracker X, made in Thailand and sold in Brazil since December. I believe all the units being sold here came from the same factory batch.
He´s just realized that the passenger footpegs are misaligned by over 2 inches. Please see the pictures showing the problem here:
http://testedos100dias.com.br/dtracker250/
So I´d like to know if this is a "feature" of the D-Tracker X / KLX250SF, or if this batch has a fault.
Thanks for your reports!
Rosa

my 09 250S is like that too (but maybe not quite as pronounced, hard to tell).
doesn't really matter though, the passenger isn't putting a whole lot of weight on them, and it doesn't matter if they have the peg on the same position on the foot (if you know what i mean). they just need to be comfortable (not that you can actually get comfortable with 2 on this bike anyway). I need to wear earplugs when my wife is on the back, just to stop hearing her bitching about how uncomfortable the seat is

PORTUGUESE TRANSLATION>->You could try running Google Translate on the page. The guy is making a very thorough appraisal and the comments are good too. A summary will be published in the "Duas Rodas" mag. The model sold in Brazil is fuel injected and has a speed (rpm) limiter, but I´ve disabled it after the 1.000 km maintenance.
FOOTPEG MISALIGNMENT "FEATURE" by DESIGN OR FLAW? Well, then it looks like it´s a "feature" of the bike, and not some manufacturing fault on the lot that was exported to Brazil! It would be interesting to know why it´s like that, though!

My guess is it is that way for one of two reasons.
1. The left side rear subframe tube(or whatevery you want to call it) is angled farther back to give more support for the weight of the battery & the rear overall, as opposed to the right side is farther forward to allow clearence fo the muffler (which would be a bit of a stiffener for the subframe itself.
2. To keep the passangers legs a little further from hot exh.
Cheers Jim
