Tire advise KLX250sf D-Tracker 2011 model
I'm new on this forum...hello all.
I got a 2011 KLX250 D-Tracker in Thailand, it's wheels are the same size as 09 onwards.
it's running the stock IRC road winner (110-70-17 & 130-70-17), I want to replace them with Pirelli sport demons & my local dealer in Thailand (tire options here are very limited) can only order 110-70-17 front which is good but the the rear is only available as 140-70-17.......Now i've done oversize tires on other bikes coz they look better & f#cked up the handling! Is this 140 gonna be ok?? as this bike handles so sweet on the twisty mountain roads of Thailand. As it's a little under powered compared to most, the handling is important to me.
Thx

Thx TexasKawai,
The IRC's get a lot of bad press but they are actually a pretty good all round tire. We get our fair share of weather here but in a climate that never drops below 25c77f even at night, I don't get the slow warm up times that the tires need to work in the wet!
The Pirelli sport demons get a great writeup for all round motard use, so TexasKawai has nudged me to make the order. I will wait one week from now just in case anyone has anything else to add to this post.
Cheers all

I have a shinko podium in a 140 on the back of my SF and have no issues, but don't ask me about tire wear yet because I only have about 300 miles on it so far, but it's seems to stick to the road pretty good, I bought a front at the same time but my front still has good tread so I have not changed it yet.

I have a race this saturday going to burn up the 140/70 and slap a 150/60 on and see what happens. If the wr with the same rear rim width can run one why not the klx? Ill be making a thread in the next couple of weeks.

Thx for the help guys.
Going with the 110 & 140 sport demons.......It's going to be a week or two maybe more until I get them fitted. I will report back with some results, after their scrubbed in & given a proper testing/thrashing on the twisty fast roads!

For what it is worth, the Bridgestone BT003 RS is out in those sizes too.
As for a 140, heck that's what's on the back of my 550 Zephyr and I'm even running the Road Winners. It sticks fine. When I get the SM wheels done for the KLX650 I'm going to run the 110/140 combination. I'm more about performance than looks. I can crank the 650 over with the dual sport tires further than most riders lean their sportbikes and I'm figuring a decent set of road tires in the aforementioned sizes will work at least as good.
There is a reason the 250 has those sizes - less weight (rotating and unsprung) and adequate size to do the job. Anything more is overkill and horsepower robbing.
