Default 2006 KLX 250 won't run

I bought a 06 KLX 250 from my cousin a few months ago, he had put 900 miles on it in all those years. Since I've had it I've put 700 miles on it with no problems till this weekend. I was out riding and the bike shut off like you hit the kill switch or turned off the key. I tried to start it will still rolling and no luck so I pulled over. When you hit the starter nothing happens, no lights on, horn doesn't work. I checked the fuses under the seat and they were good. As I was waiting for my cousin to bring a trailer and pick me up I jiggled the key in the ignition fot the 100th time and the headlight came on, I hit the starter and the headlight went off and nothing happened. I could not recreate this after many attempts. When my cousin arrived he jiggled it and the same thing happened, headlight and netural light on till he hit the starter button, then everything off. When I got home I tried to jump it to no avail. The battery is OEM but seemed to be strong before that. I'm thinking ignition switch is my problem, any thoughts. Thanks Terry. Just to clairify with the ignition switch on there are no lights on except those two brief times.

Another member had a similar problem a few months ago. I think it turned out to be the battery. If you have an '06 with the original battery, it's time to change it.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll pick one up. Terry.

Would a bad battery cause a bike to suddenly die while your riding it? It wouldn't on a car, we have a alternator also don't we. Terry.

I would look at the various kill switches too... specifically the kick stand. I think there's one on the clutch lever, and the handlebars as well.

Check also your battery connections. Clean them up.
