Default 1978 KL250A

I have not had a bike for years now but would like to get a smaller one to mess around with. I was in one of my customers barns the other day and noticed an old '78 KL250A. It looked like it was in really good condition other than the fact that it was covered in dust. Good paint, seat not ripped, and tail light was the only broken light. He said that the last time he tried starting it (probably 3-5 years ago) it didn't start but he really didn't try that hard. He said that he would take whatever I thought it was worth for the bike. So I am asking you. What is it worth? I was thinking of offering $150 to $200.

Boy there's not a whole lot of information on that bike. So you speak Japanese or German or maybe even Dutch?

Sorry for the long links. Didn't we have a way to make links smaller? I tried, did it work?

I'm no expert by far but remember, the WORST thing you can do to a bike is to let it sit. If I bought a "Barn Bike" I would make very sureI could get parts. Sounds like a nice find though.

Quite right! especially bad for two strokes condensation willget within the crankcase and rust will form on the end bearings they sound great when you first get them going but usually start rattling shortly afterwards. Not usually such a problem with 4 strokes as the crank is hopefully sat in bath of oil. Go as low as you can go with price as you could be in trouble a few weeks down the line if its been sat in a barn for a long time.

good hunting

I picked up an old XR200 1978 for $200 (this was in 1998). It had been sitting for 4 or 5 years.
It wouldn't kick over. I tore the whole thing down - bottom end and all. It was a couple broken teeth from the kickstarter assembly jamming the whole engine up. She ran like a dream after I restored it. (no rebuild, just a couple new gears from the bike wrecker and a little help from a nice shop owner to put the bottom end back together). The bike came with a bonus 6th gear as well (someone before me had installed an extra gear in the tranny).

Moral of the story - sometimes these bikes turn out to be gems...

Make them as small as you like eg: ----->>>> . <<<<-------- click on the fullstop

Copy the URL then highlight the word or symbol you want to use for the link then click on the insert link icon (the blue globe with the chain link) then paste the link into the popup box, click ok
easy peasy

$150 sounds like a good price. I just got one for free. It needs work but can't beat the price. I am new to the group and joined to find out more about the KL250A. Mine is a 1978.
