Default no lights or turn signals on kl250a

I bought a 78 KL250a as a first bike for my son. It just recently lost the headlight, tailight, dashlights and turn signals and the battery was steaming out of the overflow. I haven't found any burnt wires and I have only found 1 fuse and it was good. Any ideas as to what the problem might be?
Thanks,
Tom

Check the generator and rectifier. Sounds like you are over charging hence the boiling of the battery and loss of electrical components.

Good luck and welcome to KF

Does it have to be a regulater from the same year bike, or is it just a matter of bolt up and wiring?

I think you have me on the right track. I noticed the bulb in my neutral light was burned out, put a new one in, turn the ignition to on and the bulb came on. Then I started the bike and the bulb got real bright and burned out. Going camping for the weekend, when I get back I'm going to take a voltage test on the generator and rectifier to see which or both is bad. I really appreciate your help.
