Cool

Hey thanks for all the great guidance on the resources and all. I'm just coming up on 3500 miles in a little more than 6months, so I've got a little time to study up and get prepared to do this. I live in an area that has a lot of year round riding weather so I'll be riding alot through most of the winter months. Anyway I appreciate your help.

You have to take the fan off? All i have to take off is the gas tank.

I had to unbolt the fan and move it up (still against the rad). Even then it was tight getting the valve cover out the left side. Must be a few microns clearance differences between bikes.

I wonder if it's a model-year difference? Didn't need to move my fan on '06.

or say I need to move my valves .004 of an inch so

.004 X 25.4 equals .1 MM so figure out what shim you start with then just subtract the difference.

So if your starting shim is 2.90 MM and you need to move your valves .004

2.90MM / 25.4 = .114 thickness and you need to drop .004 down to .110 then
.110 x 25.4 = 2.794 or a 2.80 shim....
I was told that there would be no math....

The right fan? As opposed to the left one?

there was no way for me get the valve cover up and over the cam/cam chain on the right...the right fan had to come off to get the cover up high enough...
