150 Mile Loop
A group of 5 met in Sonoita yesterday for ride. We went north on AZ 83 and turned onto Gardner Canyon Road. Turned right onto Fish Canyon Road which after awhile sharpened up our rustiness a bit. This eventually intersected the Greaterville Road which heads west through Box Canyon and takes you over the Santa Rita's and into the Santa Cruz River valley.
Near the end of this road we intersect the road to Helvetia, an old ghost town that was used as a set in the Paul Newman movie, Hombre. We stop here in case one of the riders who lives near Helvetia is going to peel off, but he continues with the rest of us to Arivaca.

In Arivaca we've gone 100 miles and I'm on reserve so we stop for gas and coffee and a snack. I get 60mpg on this segment which is about 50/50 highway and FS roads.
Heading south out of Arivaca we take Ruby Road, named after the mining town of Ruby, now another ghost town. The road loops back to I-19 which is 22 miles east of Arivaca. We're riding a mixture of bikes - KLR650, XT225, DR650, GS1200, and my KLX250. But with the roads we're on there is not particular advantage to any of them and we stick quite closely together.

The scenery is quite nice along this road and we stop more than once for picture opportunities.

Kind of windy, but a really beautiful day for a ride.
