Default 14-49 Gearing

Hay guy's, I'm just about ready to order a new chain and sprocket. I really like the idea of the 14-49 gearing for off road use. I need something that will power through a head wind on the highway too. My question is what rpms are you running at 70 mph with this set up and also mabe those with a 14-48 or 47 set up? Thanks in advance for your replies.

since you are starting a gearing thread I might as well ask this.
Will a 15 tooth sprocket fit on the 250? Since you are throwing
in a free front sprocket on our deal, I thought I would ask.
I am going street only for now.

14/48 = 80mph(speedo) @ 9000. and you keep the chain guard. 14/49 bye bye guard. 110L chain for both

I don't believe there is enough space for a 15t, at least with the factory chain/case protector.

Anybody know where to find a 39 tooth Sprocket. Rear of course.

Also a D-tracker front speedo drive?

Sorry, I'm not sure what you're talking about here.





I don't know if the 15 tooth will fit but if your thinking about a 15-42 set up that would be a little too high in my opinion. I don't know if 6th gear would be very useful. That's one reason I'm wanting to go lower on mine. 6th gear isn't much good to me if I'm riding into the wind on the highway.

Well.... With only 200 miles so far on my bike...and a 14/49 gearing ratio, suffice it to say that I am no where near going 70 MPH.... It does do 55 mph in 6th at 5,000 RPMs (yeah, I know I'm over the recommended break-in RPMs but I have always broken in my bikes the way I ride them.. But I'm trying... sort of....

The 49 does not appear to rub on the lower chain guard, but I am using 115 link chain and have it set up "in range" on #3 slot of the spacer disk, so I'm admittedly a bit back to start off with.

Thanks DirtSurfer, I hear ya on the rpms and the break in. I did the slow break in on mine. Knowing what I know now I would have done the fast break in. I would have alot more miles on my bike by now if I had.

Scat has a 49/110L on his and it is right there. I believe it is difficult to get the chain on, but it will work.
