Don't know if this helps, but I went with the 14/48 combo with a 110 link. It's wound up tight at 60 mph and wouldn't run there for more than a few miles. Most of my riding is in town, dirt roads and trails so the limited speed is not an issue. With this ratio I was climbing some steep hills, that I could barely keep the front down on, with no problem.
