It takes about 30 seconds to air the front tire from 14 to 22 psi, and maybe 50 seconds for the back tire. I just leave the motor running at idle, and haven't noticed any effect on the battery.

If that compressor draws 8 amps under load, it would take about 45 minutes to fully drain a 6AH Motorcycle battery, and that is with the motor off...

If you're just going to let the engine idle, I wouldn't even bother. I don't believe it starts spinning the alternator fast enough to generate significant juice until you're at 3 - 4000 rpm (?).

True, but when you are done you won't have the extra current draw of re-starting the engine.

I got a piece of red and black #14 stranded and wired it right to the battery with a 20 amp flat fuse and holder in line on the positive lead.

Here is the flat blade fuse holder.
