there's a sweet line if you can see it. leave just enough off to bolt the plate right below the taillight. the line is so obvious, I'm surprised no one has seen it. from what I've seen, people are just hacking it off straight across, looks dumb imo. personally, I feel they put it on for a reason as a huge mudflap to block mud. personally I am kind of used to it. until I see someone cut where I'm talking I won't do it.

I couldnt help myself.....
I used a dremmel and hacked off the bottom reflector tab....Also what was cool is I rotated the license plate bracket and moved the plate up 3/4 of an inch....
I was gonna cut more....But If I didnt like it I was stuck with it...Little@Atime

that's what I'm talking about. I don't like how that looks and I sure wouldn't do it to my '09. the line starts right up by the taillight and it flows downward, it is an actual line in the plastic too. it leads to an area that can just be cut straight across so as to mount the plate directly to the plastic that is left below the taillight. a hacksaw won't cut it like I'm talking as this isn't your father's plastic anymore- it's pretty tough stuff. it will take a dremel and a sharp blade along with a smooth operator. Like someone mentioned, I can't see the fender while riding and I've seen the mud it has trapped. If anything, cutting the steel reflector mounts off the plate holder will clean alot up. as it stands now, I am going to leave the fender alone. I removed the DRZSM's, but it was just ridiculous. this one, while large too, doesn't seem to bother me as much.[&o]

sorry, the line starts up by the turn signal after seeing the picture above. it's like kawi put it there as a perforated line for this mod.
my '06 deej, is missed and I like that picture as well as that day, it was a good day nearly two years ago actually that pic was taken.
plus, I like to throw people off that don't know me or know that I had an '06 too.[:-]

RE: 09 Rear Fender?
I used my electric jigsaw with a fine tooth blade, and finished it off with the small sandpaper wheel on my dremel tool, ...you know, to take off those stringy plastic left-overs.
I took off my license plate bracket, eyed up about where I wanted to cut, used a 12" ruler as a straight edge, drew a line with my "white-out" pen, and then attacked with my jigsaw, finishing touches with the dremel.
Mine looks as if it was designed that way. I cut mine about an inch lower than the license plate bracket bolt holes in the fender. It really makes a big difference for the bike's looks.[8D]
