09 KLX250S and WR250R dyno results
Geez this topic sure fires people up.
Lets face it, all bikes have there pros and cons.
In 06 when I was looking around for a bike, I did a lot of research.
I'm talking spread sheets the lot.
(You see, I have OCD when it comes to purchasing anything)
(And for me, money had very little to do with it)
I identify the criteria that are important to me, weight that criteria, and then rate all relevant products against that criteria.
(this includes a test ride of everything in the mix)
What this means is I know exactly why I chose the KLX.
For me, and at that time, it won out.
(what I learned about the KLX on this forum certainly helped make my mind up)
For someone with a different agenda to say that something else is "better" is completely meaningless.
Better for who?

Hey guys, I made a mistake on my mods list! I forgot that a long time ago, I put my air box lid back on and also, the clip on my needle is on the 4th notch from top, not bottom. I rejetted my bike yesterday cuz I was running rich. I changed the main jet to a 135(keihin) and the needle to 2nd notch from top. My fuel screw is set at 2 turns out. My bike is running super strong now!
I'm not brainwashed. I know what my bike is; a beginner's bike that's street legal. The end. I have 0 desire to ride blue. I'll quit riding before I ride blue. I guess that makes me hard-headed but whatever; I'm a noobtard (since you went with the name-calling, "boy", dropping the dreaded IG references, whatever) but I've seen enough Yammy bikes and whatnot to know I won't ride one. I know I'm not as experienced as you, its unneccesary to throw that in my face every time we discus an issue. I know it going in, you don't have to make that point (rather sharply, at that) every time we participate in a thread. I come at it looking for advice from old hands. That's how I learn. I can't learn if I don't sound stupid from time to time. And I appreciate such discussions because that's how I discover the in's and out's.
Sorry you took my words as that. No harm meant bud. From my impression, you seemed to of been taking this the wrong way from the beginning. Like you took offense to this or something. If you like this bike thats fine, its a great beginning bike.
No hostilities here mate. After your a fellow TNG'r

NINJA EDIT: Honestly, I respect someone not wanting to buy a bike more for them believing its junk than anything...rather than rationalizing it through other means. Even though so far as my research shows this bike has been good I can also vouch that as a long term combined issue, Yamaha doesn't have the best track record, say as Honda does. I know they cheap out on some of their stuff. But this bike seems to be O.k. But I can respect someone not wanting to blow that kind of cash based on a wish basically.
Like I said no hard feeling man...sorry for everything.

Sometimes better is simply better. Its like saying flying on vacation in a DC-3 is better than a 737... just isn't so. Thats what a carb and EFI are like.
Better is subjective.
My point is that your better may not be my better.
Simple as that.
I of course see what your saying....no matter how minute theres always positives to things and if thats what you want then that is "better". I fully understand that. I was hoping you could reciprocate and understand where I'm coming from. Despite opinion the opposing side has so many more pros that its a defeat by annihilation. Like comparing an old Model T Ford to a modern day vehicle. I mean if you want that old clunker for whatever reason then I guess its the "better" car...but seriously....the new car is better. Why? Because it completely blows away the old car in almost every form. Its faster, more power, safer, more comfortable, more modern, better millage, more reliable, more features....etc etc etc. You could go on forever. That is what I'm talking about, surely you can see what I'm getting at?
And I'm not totally disagreeing with you.
By your criteria, and by many of mine, the wr is a better bike.
Quite possibly from a purely technical point of view, the wr "is" a better bike.
But each to their own.
The wr wasn't available when I bought my KLX.
But I have been down and had a look.
I compared it to the KLX using my original purchasing criteria.
I would still have bought the KLX.
