09 KLX turned into a project
I bought one off of Craigslist one night and that was a mistake. I couldn’t see what it really was, a disaster. So currently it is completely disassembled, wheels broke down, frame at powder coating, ect.
Today I pulled the forks apart to find a fair amount of rust on the fork piston rods. Should I just clean them and move on or put some kind of finish on the piston rods, like POR15, or gun bluing?

Yep, or "Keeps me out of the bars."
I'm betting buying forks is better than trying to fix rusty ones. Might see about fitting either earlier 06-07 forks or maybe KX forks. KX might be lower cost due to all the old MX bikes. Full adjustable would be sweet. If they can be fitted to OEM clamps better yet.

Do some google searches. Planet KLX had information but is now defunct. The reason why anyone who has a Google Docs account or web site should duplicate information as much as possible, it can disappear from any one source.
The one I saw had them using 95 KX forks on an earlier KLX.
