There are two good sources for information. One is the Yahoo KLX650 Group, I am a moderator. Not a recreational forum, but rather lots of good information. The general forum is hard to work, but the search works well. My KLX650 has a Vulcan 1500 piston, Wossner makes one that is popular, making the bike a 678cc and pull a lot stronger.

Then there is the thread on the ADVrider site under the Thumpers forum. It is KLX650 riders UNITE. It isn't really busy due to the rarity of the model, but there is a ton of information there too. One rider in Australia that built a rally version with a stroker making 700cc and incredible power.

Go to the ADVrider forum, in the Thumpers, under the KLX650 riders UNITE! thread you can find Foggy's (John Fogarty) Dakar style KLX650. He is back row on the right, his son Aaron raced it in a big 700 mile Aussie event:

My 650 has 49,000+ miles. I need to tear it down, I think I have a rod bearing going bad, we found some bronze colored flakes in the oil filter last fall. I really enjoy the bike, will probably go with 17 rims when done, I have a 250 for more off-road dual sport stuff now.

The Kawasaki KLX is a solid bike, yet it doesn't have the same widespread online presence as some other models, which is surprising given its reliability and performance. A dedicated forum would be a great resource for owners to share tips, mods, and experiences, and could really help build a stronger community around this underrated bike. Maybe it’s time for KLX enthusiasts to start one!

I have had one since around 19997, right now I think it needs a rod kit. There is a KLX650 thread in the ADVrider forum singles sub-forum. They're aging out, not much going on with them unfortunately since it could have made an incredible supermoto production bike. The thread has about everything possible covered one time or another.

There used to be a Yahoo group, but it went defunct in Yahoo's closing of forums. I have some of the information in files like how to fit a DRz400 shock to the C model and making a Honda CR style brake line to take the place of the stock line and hard line under the fork. If you want copies I think I have them in a Google Drive document.
