That is the way the stands were made.
They made street legal ones in USa from 1993 -1996. The 93 94 ones were black bodies and teal green frames. 95-96 ones were sunbeam red with purple frames and both units featured mid 90's wild graphics compared to the KLR series which were more muted. This machine was a great bike for Kawasaki, but at an original MSRP nearly 1000 more than the KLR650 it's life was short lived and the off road models were kick start only and came in green. The off road modelswere not very popular at all and Kawasaki dropped the retail price of these down to something like 3699 to dump remaining inventory during the day. The on road ones were a blast with inverted suspension, narrow profile,MX style, with a 1.5 gallon tank they were limited to about 150 miles between fill ups. The motor was a bit stronger than the KLR version and didn't run the ballancer chain set up that the KLR's run. It has been my all time favorite dual sport model from kawasaki and I Put over 11K miles on mine before selling.Things I regret. Now building 2008KLX450R dual sport model to replace it.

OK, good news guys and girls. Just finished running the service manual through my OCR program for several hours and I have put all of the KLX650 pages in one very small acrobat file with the advantage of being able to search through it.

I am sharing this via many methods.

You can get the manual through...
