Default New to me 1987 KLR250

I'm picking up a 1987 KLR250 today. It will be a pit/fun bike for tooling around the pits and around town riding. The person I'm buying it from says it is very hard to start. I've seen other posts here that lead me to believe this isn't too uncommon. being over 30 years old it doesn't surprise me too much and I have no problem doing whatever is needed to get it sorted. Any tips and or tricks would be greatly appreciated. It is also going to need some hard parts like a shock or a shock rebuild so a line on any used parts would be great.

Thanks in advance

I have a 1986 KLR 250 and it is very easy to start. Check the valves and the spark plug to start it should be very easy to start.
