VINtegra90,

Both the KLR250 and the KLR650 are great bikes.

If you're going to be spending most of your time on the highway, by all means go with the KLR650.

I am happy with both my KLR650 and 250. But they do serve different purposes. The 650 is for harder packed roads and highway mileage. The 250 is for deep woods riding in very soft sand. The 650 has a more street oriented tire, the 250 a very knobbie DOT approved tire.

Hope this helps you.

Hmmmm I guess I have a lot to learn about the Kawasaki bikes. So the KLR is the older version of the KLX? Also it looks like the KLR is not water cooled is that right? The new 2006 KLX has inverted forks, and a few other differences, maybe we should have someone that know more list the differences between the KLX and the KLR.

Here's a website of the 05 KLR250 -- 05 is the last year they make them in THIS country, after 15 years, and replaced it for 06 with the KLX250S which has been available for many years both here and in other countries, too.

Specs for the KLR250:

Olddualsporter,

I know that the specs look pretty close between the KLR and KLX250. But with the bikes side by side, the differences are very apparent.

The KLX is taller and has more ground clearance . . . . the forks are much bigger to boot.

After riding both of them in some poor traction conditions, the KLX is the bike I would rather have off road. The extra suspension travel is worth the extra money. I won't add that it's electric start either.

Yep -- got both models right next to each other, just like you do.

Just bought a Little Green Fun Machine for a daily commuter and having a blast on it! Exceeds my expectations in every way. Been watching the community here and especially the mods threads! I am going to do the carb thang as soon as I can break some cash off the money tree. Thanks for all the info!!!!

I have a 2003 KLR 250, top speed is 85-90mph and cruises good at 65, I like the 6 gears it has. Happy riding!!🙂
