Default 2001 KLR250 Oil in stator cover

My buddies 01 KLR250 has oil in the stator cover, quite a bit, it was probably halfway up the flywheel nut access hole. It seems that the battery has failed, but I wonder how likely it is that the oil is causing the charging system to not work? How hard is it to put a left side crank seal in? I know the flywheel has to come off, but after that, how hard is it to get to?

I believe it is supposed to be open to the bottom end. My KLX and I believe all the KLX250/300/400/650 models are all oil in the stator. I also believe all the KLRs will be too.

Call a Kawasaki dealer and ask.

Definitely should be oil in there. This is normal. The timing and balancer chains are right under the flywheel, and of course need oil.
