83 vs 87 KDX 200

83 vs 87 KDX 200
My brother has a 1983 KDX 200, and found someone with a 1987 KDX 200 for $250 U.S. BUT, the 1987 does not have the front brake caliper.
Are they different from each other? where would one get a front brake caliper for the 1987 ? Used hopefully, I think new is really expensive if you can find one.
What differences are there between the two ? I think I read the 1987 has some power valve or something that the 1983 doesn't.
Are the stators the same? and anything else any of the knowledgeable people can throw in would be a great help.
