Default 1988 mojave 250

Ok well ive got an 88 Mojave that ive been having some problems with. It starts up and will idle fine but then when I press the throttle and give it gas it starts to cut out and die. It started this after my friend ran it wide open on the highway for a couple minutes straight and then it started sputtering and cutting out like it had ran out of gas but it seems to be getting gas just fine so I don't know if something serious might be wrong with it or what? Your help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to KF

Running a ride WFO (Wide Fukin' Open), will suck up a lot of sediment that is in the float bowl. The float prolly ran low and sucked up anything it could. I would try either a fuel treatment, or a carb cleaning and adjustment. Being an '88 I would prefer the carb tear down, cleaning and adjustment since you did not mention the last time it was done. You also did not mention how the plug looked.

I agree with drag, probably dirty carb since it dies with throttle. Probably main jet plugged. I miss my 2000 Mojave, fun lil atv!
