Default zx9 exhaust questions

I just bought a 96 zx9 with a vance & hines slip-on exhaust and does not sound very good at all (like the bees in a can noise while riding). Wanted to know if anyone has any ideas on how to make it sound better? I am not sure yet if it is jetted with a filter but I will find out soon. If those are not installed will installing them make it sound better? Should I just buy a different FULL exhaust instead or possibly buy the rest of the exhaust for the one I already have? If you have any sound clips or deals you have heard of I would like to know please. Thanks.

Default RE: zx9 exhaust questions

Jimbo, I've had a V&H carbon slip-on (SS2, I think) for several years on my '95 9-R. One thing which will give you the "buzz" is ANY exhaust escaping around the end cap at the rear. (I initially had a chrome can on it, but switched it out for carbon due to the other carbon stuff on the bike; purely aesthetics.) I think these cans (and bikes) have a unique sound to them, not unlike theearly air-cooled GSXR's. A jet kit/filter probably won't make any appreciable difference. I've got a stage 1 in mine. Do you have any baffling in the can? I don't have any. It's really not God-awful loud, either, at least until you get above 8-9K, then she really screams. (But it's a NICE scream!!) Everything below 8K is a moderate burble. Great air flow, though... Give it a try before you decide to drop major cash on a full system. I think you'll like it.
