Lost left front cotter key so wheel started to run off while riding pastures. I managed to make it home with out cassel nut, washer and rubber boot. (About a mile) never did find any of these parts that came off. it messed up the hub splines so I bought new hub and put it on. The lug nuts were larger in diameter than the lug nuts on the original hub. The threads were the same just larger diameter wise. The old lug nuts got tossed by my helper, hub and all went to scrap yard. After about a month I began to hear a slight scrunching from the left front new hub. I couldn’t pin point it right away but after a week or so it got louder and louder. I jacked it up and turn wheel and was no racket heard. Put it on the ground and push it forward, it would make the scrunching. Jacked her back up and took the lug nuts off and I notice the new nuts were tapered like an automobile. Looked at the other lug nuts and they mounted flat to rim, meaning no taper on the lug nuts. So I then turn the lug nuts over and put the flat side to the rim. Tighten in a cross sequence pattern. Drove it for 2 weeks with no sound at all. On the third week I began to hear a slight scrunching sound again. Same as before. the scrunching returned. It doesn’t do it continuously but ever time the wheel makes a complete turn you get one scrunch. I pull the wheel and see some shiny worn metal but not much. I put wheel back on and added flat washers with a lock washer then the flat side of the lug nuts and tighten with impact using the cross pattern. This made the scrunching worse. What do I do now? Is it the rim or the wheel studs. They don’t look bad but the eye may not see a thousandth inch of wear. I’m at a loss and don’t want to keep driving it this way. I hope someone has an answer for me. Thanks, I will try anything to fix this problem.
