96 STS750 Running Suggish
Hey guys, new here. I have a '96 STS750. Runs very sluggish on take off and will only achieve maybe 30mph. Never cuts off on me, just a substantial lack of power. Getting ready to replace spark plugs, didn't know if anyone has had this problem or knows any suggestions of things to check.
Also, person that had it before me did some mods such as disconnect trim guage, disconnect RPM guage, disconnect oil tank which forces me to add oil to gas when filling up, and install larger water muffler which forced battery to be moved up front. I have garaged it this past week to start reversing some of these mods. Any ideas on why someone would make these type of changes? Can anyone tell me where the tube from the oil tank connects?
HEY HEY, any help is greatly appreciated!

Scott, welcome to the forums man....
People do all kinds of mods to try and achieve the best running, most power efficient machine they can have. Unfortuntely most people do the mods wrong. That thing should be mixing around 40:1 if I remember right. There is a 16:1 myth on mixing, but that will fowl the plugs, and give you that sluggish performance.... I know people who are running full syn, and mixing at 80:1 with no probs.
What are you mixing at now? Lean you mix up a little, change plugs would be where I would start...
Gl man...

Thanks for the feedback. Currently I have been running a synthetic blend at 50:1 mix. I checked the plugs yesterday and had quite a bit of carbon build up and some oil on one of them. Replaced them both and headed to lake later today to see if it made any improvements. Checking out a '95 STS today to take some digi photos and get oil tank reconnected. I think I may try running a full syn as you suggested at a 60:1 mix and see how it responds. Thanks again man!!
Replacing the plugs has helped a little. Still not where it should be by a long shot. Maybe picked up 5 mph and a little quicker acceleration. Any other suggestions? Checked my carbs, they look very clean. Still looking for an additional 10mph. This thing comes off of floor with 45 - 49mph.
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!
