Default Zx6r won't reach rev limit

I own an 05 zx6r with twenty thousand miles. I maintain this like it was my baby. It has been sitting my my heated garage for two months with stabil in it. Gas was put in right before I put it In. Today I take it out and ride it for thirty minutes. Come back into the garage rev it up and notice I can't get past around 13k rpm's. It hits the shift light and just bounces back down. It back fires a little. I have never had this problem before. Someone said bad gas or plugs. I dunno. It's factory plugs and still runs like a champ all the way up to 13k. Any help?

when is the last time you checked the plugs are changed them, also could be a bad ecu because this a known problem for the 05-06 since you'll have the undertail exhaust and the ecu sits right under the passagner seat

Any time it sits it's gonna have problems, stable helps but it doesnt solve everything. if it was running well before the store I would doubt its the plugs, but you can pull them and check anyway. The most common problem is bad gas, and it's a relitively easy and cheap fix, so start with that. Drain the tank, fill it with fresh high test and maybe some injector cleaner and ride it for a few days. If you still have the problem then at least you know you have good gas for further testing. Let us know how it goes, and Welcome to KF!

Good call hoe, but if the TPS was bad I would expect it to cut out at a specific throttle setting, instead of chugging at a specific RPM. Then again I havent messed with injectors and electronics on bikes, so I really cant talk. The 05 still uses the cable/tps combo instead of a full throttle by wire system right?

There are a lot of possible reasons listed in the troubleshooting section in your manual. Anywhere from air filter being dirty to ecu, spark plugs, sensors, etc. Good luck on the troubleshoot.

Gas and plugs would be the first things I'd check. If you have 20k on the factory plugs, they're due for a change.
