Default Valve Stem Seal Replacement

Do I really need to remove the cylinder head to replace valve stem seals on an '86 ZX600R, or is there a valve spring compressor available that is not the "C" type similar to what is used for OHV car engines (used with compressed air to hold valve in place)?
Thanks,
KV

So you are not concerned on the guides? Just the seal replacement? How are you going to remove the rocker arms and shaft without removing the cams? I would think that doing everything on a bench would be so much nicer and cleaner. Since you will have to position the cams back into place, what is $16 for a new head gasket of your preferred thickness and knowing that you did a thorough job? See section 4-11 in your manual. Enjoy
