Default Slider vs Spool - Difference

What is the difference between a slider and a spool? I wanted to buy frame sliders for my zx9 and therefore went on to ebay.. i found one that I liked and thought was good quality.. below is the link... however, the picture show two different size sliders.. i thought they should be the same... and then he mentioned spool... can somebody please explain? thanx

look in my photo gallery at my bike. The front gold ones sticking out (right below my handle bars) are called frame sliders.

spools are on the rear swingarm (mine also gold, i think) are mainly used to lift the bike with a rear stand, but also provide some protection.

I know for a fact that the frame sliders are worth every penny u spend on them. I just recently did a stupid thing and dropped my bike.errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr [:@] the price to fix my bike is $0 cause the sliders saveed it 100% It could have cost me well over $400 to fix the fairing and anything else that would have broke.

Hope this helps

Yeah, what they said...

You might see two different sizes because your bike may not be perfectly symmetrical, and the mounting location might be different on the left & right sides. The ones in that link you sent are definately sliders, and not spools, though it does look like he also sells swingarm spools if you want some. I picked some up, and a rearstand to go with it, and it makes working on the bike nice & easy... Just get a buddy to help hold the bike the first few times you do it, so you get a feel for holding the bike/stand/etc and don't drop it..

most anywhere and if your not willing to cut your plastic to get a solid mounted slider then its not even worth it to get sliders at all.

Thanks guyz... yeah i knew what the sliders were but was not sure about spools.. and also whether they should be the same... thanks for clearing it up...

evil636 - what did you mean by "if your not willing to cut your plastic to get a solid mounted slider"?

and now the challenge is finding a nice chrome set of sliders to match my polished frame... i have a 00 zx9 and the one in my original link is for 02-03... does anyone know of any good place with good quality (besides ebay)?

let frogger show you the pics of a 'no cut' slider and youll see what i mean. the ones that solid mount to the frame will protect the bike and on some aplications 05-06 636r's you need to cut the plastics in order for the slider to mount.
see how i had to cut my plastics for the slider and base to solid mount to the frame

this is what the mo cut bracket looks like after a slide.....note i was only going about 5- 10 mph when i droped it.....i was luck that the slider bracket bent out instead of in or worse snapping off....here are some pics of the no cut slider and the damage the slider caused my fairing
