Exclamation Rough running and stalls

Just cleaned up a '97 ZX6 that had sat for 4 years.

Did:

New brake fluid
New antifreeze
New oil/filter
New spark plugs
New fuel lines
New fuel filter
Cleaned/sealed gas tank
2g of fuel with some SeaFoam is currently in

Starts up and will run on full choke anywhere from 5 seconds to until I shut it off. It will not run off full choke unless I open the throttle all the way, and then maintain it at about 1/4-1/2 throttle.

When on kickstand, it runs a lot worse than if I have it centered. Why would this make a difference?

On choke, it will idle great when centered, but any touch of the throttle will kill it. Cannot remove the choke while running or it will kill it.

It will warm up to a running temprature, but it makes no difference on the choke status.

I think unrelated, but once to a running temprature, the radiator is steaming pretty bad.

Anyone have any thoughts?

The carbs are going to need to be pulled and cleaned. The problem is the pilot jets are clogged and will require removal to perfom this. Grab a service manual to do this

Thanks for the reply. Got the carbs off and small parts got some chem dip. You were right, very varnished. Put everything back together, but will have to wait till tomorrow to start, too late for some random backfires

Thanks

Ok, it will not start now. All parts are clean, everything is connected correctly.

If I let it sit for an hour before I turn it over, it backfires then doesn't do anything. It only backfires once though, then white smoke from the exhaust.

Thoughts?

Did you set the float height correctly per the manual? And you are sure the cables and the fuel/vacuum lines are all back in the proper locations? And any screens are clear from the tank to the carbs?

sounds like a fueling issue still.. white is a rich condition.. backfire could very well be indicative of this too..

good luck and welcome to KF!!

Make sure all the vacuum lines are attached and that everything went on like it came off. There are so many little things but just double check it.

yeah i would agree it must be the carbs still. check to see if the floats have fuel in them and even try to synch the carbs they might be out of synch and that's what's causing your issue with your bike.
