Hey, I have a bit of a problem with the 95 zx6 i just bought. I brought it home and started looking it over a bit more when i noticed something with the gas cap. When I opened the little cover I was going to put the key in to unlock it to open the gas cap but realized there was nowhere to put the key. When you open it, its almost like it was hollowed out and there was supposed to be a little lock mechanism in there but thereā€™s nothing, its just hollow.
Now, prior to me purchasing the bike I saw him riding it around everywhere so he had to have opened it up somehow to fill his tank unless he put the key in the cap and the whole inside piece came out with the key?
Its a bit hard to explain but I was wondering if thereā€™s any way you could pop it open with a flathead or something? Its just soooo frustrating, tomorrow ill post a picture of it when I get home.

aahhh just the lock cylendar it's self is gone. inside should be a little hole or indent where the lock cylendar would grab on to to turn the latch mechinizm. maybe he found something that fit in there to turn it.

 

hmmm ok thanks ill try that, its like reeeally cold out and the bikes not starting[:@]. Should i get it tuned up or what would i do to it to make it start a bit better, i had it running yesterday and when it was warm it was no prob starting it. Today even with the choke its starting then dying and sometimes not even starting. Plus the idiot who was gonna change my plugs yesterday pulled the spark plug wire right off of the plug so he jus jammed it back in so now i have that to deal with.

 

electical tape on the wire for a tempoary fix. but yeah i would change the plugs and wires. If the bike has been sitting for a while change the fuel too, some fresh high octane gas. change the air filter too.

 

Does the ride sit outside in the weather? Just guessing due to the rust. Those covers do not provide a watertight seal against moisture. You getting my jist of this? ie water icing up in the carbs during the cold day starts.

 

Ya man its out in the cold, i wish i had somewhere to put it warm[:@] I got it started and once its started its fine no problems, found out i gotta keep the choke fully on for a bit. Whats should i do with it, jus leave it untill it warms up a bit THEN start it and ride it around?

gas cap is cheap enough to replace.... ^

I found on my bike, being older, Keeping fresh higher octane fuel, and a bit of some B12 in the fuel, sure helps those cold morning starts.
