Default overheating

[align=left]please help!!!

I took my 96' zx9 out sunday, first time in 3 months, and it started overheating. the fan was running about 50 % of the time and i had piping hot coolant pissing out of the overflow. the radiator wouldnt have been frozen because i have an antifreeze mix. could it be an air lock? if so how do you bleed the rad? or is it more likely the coolant pump has packed up during the last 3 months its stood still? if its this is it cheap/easy to repair? could i do it myself?
would be most grateful if anyone has any theorys on my dilema.
thanks.

What was the condition of the coolant? You might just need to flush the radiator and the gallows. How long did it take to overheat?
