HI all, I just did the second oil change on my 06 ZX14R. I noticed that the oil has a bit of a gassy oder. I used the OEM filter and 10W40 MA oil. It did the same thing on the first change too. Is this normal on a bike like this? Is this a problem? The bike runs, and sounds great.

 

Oil is not supposed to smell like gas. But everytime I smell my oil I always think it smells like gas even when it doesnt, If you can get some on a dipstick and put a lighter to it (away from the bike of course) then you will know for certain. If it doesnt immediately ignite, then like me, you need to retune your nose. If it does then you could have a serious problem, and I cant help you there.

 

Gas in oil would be a sign of failing rings[:@]not good at all

 

and I would think injector issues also to lead to the fuel issue to begin with.

 

My second 0il change out (600 miles), I noted the smell also. On the 10r. I think there was some crap stuck in the injectors. But then at 800 miles, did not notice it.

Of course could have been rings not being seated. Not sure. Did not do a leak down.
