I have a 2006 ninja 500 that has a starter problem. When I try to start it, it makes a nasty scratching noise, but will eventually start. I thought it might be the starter, so I replaced it, but it is still making the same noise. Anyone have any ideas?

 

Starter clutch probably. I cant remember if those have a one way clutch or a gear driven one. Been awhile since I've been in a 500.

yes, take a peak at the starter clutch assembly. Refer to your manual on the inspection. Looking up the fiche right now.

edit: per the fiche it is a one way starter clutch
