Default losing coolant

my zx7 is losing coolant into the crankcase. i dont know where it is coming from. does anyone know where to start looking? i recentlyreplaced the head gasket and adjusted the clearances on my valves, but in the process i may have cracked the cam bearing cage (that piese that bolts on over the cams) could that be where the leak is? thanks for the help

Was it losing coolant before you did the head gasket? What year 7?

Doesn't sound good. If you're not seeing coolant outside the motor you may have to crack it open again.

The caps would have to be all out of whack for you to even consider cracking the cage. Which would be quite noticeable. But that should not be of a coolant leakage concern. So you were leaking at the head gasket prior to this?

i don't think it was leaking before it never seemed like there was a problem until i blew the gasket and started blowing white smoke from the exhaust. i replaced the gasket and now it is losing the coolant

So ,everything was fine, then the head gasket blew..... Engine overheat? If I had to take a best guess, I would say the head maybe warped or cracked. If it was mine, I would pull the head back off, straight edge her, and if that checked good, magnaflux. IMO anyway...

I agree with tearing it down again, check the surfaces, could have been an untorqued bolt or two, who knows. Start over and give it a detailed look/see.

Yup; gotta pull 'er apart and check and re-check everything. Like BigRig says: "Get out the straight-edge." Look for evidence as you dis-assemble.
