Default KLR 250-D8 cooling system problem

Hi all, I have Stupid question , one of many I am guessing since I took the KLR to pieces 3 years ago and am now getting round to putting it back together.

Where does the rubber pipe go (what does it connect to) that comes out of the top of cooling system reserve tank. I know that the pipe that comes out of the bottom connects to the radiator just below the filler cap, but cant figure out/ remember where the top pipe goes.

Thanks for any help I receive.

Isn't that simply an overflow tube that should be routed downward and vented to atmosphere?

Hi thanks for your reply IDRIDR , You could well be correct, I must admit that that thought had crossed my mind, I am usually pretty good at either remembering or figuring things like that out. It's just the length of the pipe that is confusing me, its about 3 feet long so it looks like it at least needs to be routed somewhere specific, I was wondering if it needed to be routed somewhere so that it passes above the highest point in the cooling system to prevent any sort of potential syphoning taking place?

Okay, you have me thinking more about it. I think it may route rearward so if it overflows it doesn't drop hot coolant on your foot. I'm kinda guessing here....so take it for what it's worth.

I like your thinking, that would make sense. At this point I don't have any other ideas so I guess it will find out for sure when I eventually get the thing started again, glass is still half full.

Thanks for your replies.
