i have a major idleing issue
ok im new to this site and maybe didnt do a good job searching but found nothing. i have a 2005 kawasaki ninja zx6r 636. recently i have removed the gas tank to replace the battery and i have also replaced the voltage regulator. now to the problem.... my bike is idling way to high, sometimes it doesnt but it will fluctuate from 1500 up to around 3000 rpms. if i push the throttle forwards the idle will drop down to normal and stay for a second but then it will start to make its way right back up. its mostly after ive been getting on it, almost feels like throttles sticking some how? i also am getting awful gas mileage about 95 miles to about the 3.2 gallons i put in when i fill up, smells like its running rich a little as well. someone please help cause im new to the motorcycle game and not sure where to start!
Does the old rectifier work? If so i would put it back on and see if it runs ok. I have a friend with a 05 GSXR 600 and his rectifier went bad, i tested it and it was throwing out 19 volts and idle was the same up and down issue. it cooked his battery. I changed the rectifier and all was fixed. Just incase you dont know a rectifier is the same as a voltage regulator.
(William R will be so proud of me...)
Splitting hairs here; sorry. A "rectifier" coverts a/c voltage to d/c voltage. A "regulator" converts fluctuating d/c voltage to constant d/c voltage. I learned this the hard way back in the days of rock and roll tube amps. KT88 tubes do NOT like it when you plug a hot (high output) "line in."

Welcome to KF
This is a DFI setup with the normal vacuum related stuff on it.
Check out the basics first, as in good fuel, no vacuum leaks or pinched lines and a clean air filter since you have removed and replaced things.
In your periodic maintenance section, it gives you some good info on your idle speed adjustment checks. When you turn the bars....does the idle change? (as in a bound cable scenario).
Inspect your throttle adjustment
