Default GPZ500S Cuts out

Hi,

This is my first post, I have a GPZ500S and last weekend I got on it to go for a ride after being away for 3 weeks - it started fine but when I went into first gear it cuts out, I repeated this a couple of time but had the same result. I checked the side stand switch and it had been disconnected for some time by the look of it.

I checked the oil level land it was ok and let the bike warm up with the clutch pulled in but when first was selected it cut out

Does this mean the clutch has gone if so what should I replace?

Thanks Carol...

Sounds like the side standd switch. Re-connect it. Or short the two wires together. There's a micro switch in the clutch lever, but it sounds as though that's OK - nothing to do with the clutch itself and the neutral switch in the box is working OK.

Almost certainly the wiring of the sidestand switch. If it turns out to be something else, please post what you find.

That sounds about right. If the sidestand switch wires are together, the connections are probably dirty. (considering the location)

Hi,

Just had time now to try what you said, so I cut off the two connectors - stripped the wire off the 2 cables and joined together and taped up.

Started up[ and put in gear and bike did NOT cut out.

Cheers......
