Goofy zerk fitting dilemma

Goofy zerk fitting dilemma
I am restoring a 74 Fll, and oddly there are zerk fittings (brass) with a check ball/valve designed into the end that prohibits grease from passing through. It's as if the fitting is meant to prevent grease from exiting, rather than the normal function of allowing grease to enter. Very odd. Curious what I am missing. Any thoughts out there?

Can you post a pic for us, Yd? Include location of the zerk.
Edit: Maybe a dumb question, but is it just "frozen" due to age/lack of use? I haven't seen too many brass ZERK fittings. Is it a fluid bleeder fitting? (Some of the SpeedBleeder fittings are kinda wonky that way?)

Thanks for your responses. First, it isn't allowing grease to pass. And no, it's not clogged with old grease. I can put the fitting in my gun, pressure it up, then depress the ball valve...and grease gushes through. I am intrigued by the idea that it might be a "fluid bleeder fitting." I haven't pulled all the zerks on the bike, but this particular one is on the rear brake lever spindle, where the brake lever pivots on the brake housing. I suppose I should yank all the zerks and see how the others are designed. I will have to research "fluid bleeder fittings".
