Default Gel Battery Versus Liquid Acid

Has anyone ever experienced or used the newer Gel filled batteries yet? Any Pro's or Con's to these compared to a regular battery? I'm thinking of trying one in my ZX9r.

Thanks!

Never used one, but they are about the same as optima batteries you put in cars. Gel cell batteries are not much different than a liquid lead acid battery. The liquid electrolyte found in a regular battery has just been gelled up by silica. I think the internal lead plates inside the battery are also more closely spaced together. These batteries are much more vibration resistant than their liquid electrolyte brothers which means a longer life.

Vibration is one of the biggest reasons batteries go bad in the first place, followed by excessive heat.

Great, I'm going to get one!
Taking a closer look into these I also notice that the discharge rate on this type is longer, meaning it can sit longer without a charge. Might be beneficial over winter storage? Plus they come charged already.

Thanks,

That's great! If you remember years down the line, tell us how long it lasted. BTW: Do you bring your batteries inside for winter? It's important that you do. Batteries discharge very quickly when they're cold.

I messed up. I bought the Glass Mat instead. Oh well, hopefully this will do me alright.

The battery was dated 2001' on a 2000' bike, but you're right about removing from the cold. I don't have a battery tender either, but started the bike every (2) weeks ofver the winter, I know I should have brought it in out of the cold garage - but I didn't. Will have to to get the life out of this one.

Thanks!
