Chain - New or Old?

Default Chain - New or Old?

I need to get a new chain for my ER-5 and I need to know if it is acceptable to geta second hand one from a breakers or is it best to buy new ?

Get the new chain and sprockets as a set. Cheaper and will last longer in the long run.

Some things you don't want to skimp on. Chain and sprockets definitely qualify. They can ruin your day real quick.

This is for DIY/ How to section only. You should ask in the general forums. Unless you have a step by step on how to replace the chain.

I have to agree with Jeff... definately don't get second hand. It's going to cause a brittle issue. A second chain has already been on another bike which has already put it's chain wear pattern on it. When you put that chain on your bike, it's going to have to wear all over again, and once it gets worn in, there will be two weak points on each link rather than the customary one knick/scratch/cut. I have no experience in this area, but my brain is so fantastical that this is what I came up with!
