The Bikeputer...
I have a buddy that just got a job at an electronics store, and gets many products at cost... So I'm seriously considering starting up a project that I've been thinking about...
This same friend has a carputer... A really nice one... And I want on on my bike. It will have a 4"X8" LCD touchscreen display, 120 gig hardrive, Windows, bluetooth, GPS, and everything else that you can have on a laptop... all in my bike. I'll be able to listen to music on the road via bluetooth headphons integrated into my helmet, and even install a mic and link my computer to my cell phone, so whenever I get a call it can be rerouted, or I can make calls w/o needing to stop...
The screen will be mounted to the top tree and will be about half an inch above the top of the suspension adjustments. This I figured is where I have the most area w/o inpeding the speedometer and tachometer. It will have quick release, so if I'm parked in a bad neighborhood it can be removed and locked in the back... where the rest of the electronics will be hiding...
I'm only concerned with what happens if it starts raining while I'm riding, or the screen gets splashed while next to a truck, or if it starts raining while I'm in class and I forget to take it off...
I need to find some way to make the LCD display water resistant... I was thinking some kind of celophane draped over it and held on in the back with some kind of adhesive, but it needs to be very clear, tight, not glary, and can't yellow with age... I'm also considering some kind of rubber sealer just to pack into all of the seams... But I'm worried that might crack with temperature change, or split with age...
This is pretty much my biggest hurdle that I need to figure out how to get over before I start ordering parts... Any ideas or sugestions? I'll have pics up when the snow melts from my driveway and I can get it out of my cramped garage (also have a trailer, a GSXR, an old Yamaha, a '66 mustang, snowblower, snowmobile, and poor lighting... overall it's a very cramped garage...)...
I'll also post pics and how I do this in DIY incase any of you want to try it... not cheap, but I believe it will be worth it...

I can't afford to buy something that was made to be waterproof... that costs more I'd assume... I was hoping to find a way to make one I buy waterproof, or at least resistant... And the screen off a toughbook is a little too big for what I want...
