Bike won't start....?
2006 Ninja 500R - 3000 miles on it.
Two weeks ago, I went out and rode for two hours, and then stopped to fill up the tank two miles from home. After I filled it up - right to the top b/c I didn't know when I would get to ride again - I hit start and the engine barely turned, and then click click click.
I guy in the parking lot hadone of those portable jumper things; I gave it a try and the engine turned a fraction but then just click click click.
I got the bike towed back home; I got it to start once via bump start - ran it up the drive way, but as soon as I let off the throttle it stalled. I tried to bump start it again, but the rear wheel just skidded. Not much of a hill and I'm kinda light, and I think the skidding might not happen with a larger guy on the bike (or more speed).
Anway, I tested the battery and it was pretty much toast. I bought a new battery, charged that puppy up, put it in.... nothing but click click.
I checked all the connections (although I can't find where the bike grounds to the frame? A large wire runs from the negative battery post to the left side of the starter - opposite where the large wire attaches that runs from the starter relay - and a smaller yellow and black wire runs from the negative battery post to somewhere under the fuel tank). Everything looks tight and clean.
I tried jumping the starter relay - lots of sparks, no engine turnover.
Finally, I took the battery out, and using jumper cables, I attached the positive starter post to the positive battery post and the negative battery post to the bike's frame. Sparks from the attachment at the frame, but no turn of the engine.
Bad starter? Engine seized? Am I missing something? I'm a noob wrencher...
