Talking Being Proactive - KLX110 sitting in garage

Hello ...newbie here -- just wanted to get some advice on "possibly" what to expect. I was able to get a 2003 KLX110 for $400. Needs some TLC, but everyone is saying I got a really good deal. Not sure how good the deal is if I have to keep sinking money into it , - those who are in to the scene keep telling me "These things are bullet proof" - "There is very little that goes wrong with these things." blah blah

....but here we go..... the bike has been sitting for some time and it was understood that nothing was done to it in a while, hours on it are unknown.

Is there anything else I should be looking for, for a bike that has been sitting like this?

It did start up after a few kicks, definitely needs a carb cleaning - no smoke from the pipe - sounded pretty solid, rode pretty well, rubber and plastics are dirty but look good, brakes work decent. Just wanted to see if there is anything else I should be expecting or look out for either in the transmission other things that may not be easily identifiable from a visible inspection.

First thing I did was change the oil, oil filter, plug and air filter (air filter was piratically crumbled) - and gave the bike a really good cleaning. - the oil was black as black can be - the plug was carbonized but no oil or anything on it. My plan is to run some clean oil through it for about 15 mins - and then change again just to get that black out.

I took apart the gas tank and found that the petcock assembly needs to be replaced. The 2 tubes were varnish color with the screens cracked - a new assembly is on order.

I plan to throw some fresh gas and slosh it around to clean out anything that may be loose - unless you have any other ideas on how to clean the tank.

Rear tire needs to be replaced.

After this - I feel I my be ready to assemble and ride - is there anything else I should be looking for, for a bike that has been sitting like this?

Thanks

Mike
