Default 92 ninja zx6D mystery...

Hi there,

Sorry for the lengthy post...

I bought a 92 Kawi Ninja ZX6D with 50000km's on it back in march. It had been sitting for 2 years (with fuel drained). Before I started the bike I replaced chain and sprockets, put a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder, checked spark plugs and airfilter, changed the oil and filter and did a whole bunch of other stuff not relevant to this post. (i.e. fork seals, rotors etc..) I started the bike and it ran great except that the clutch was slipping. So I replaced the clutch plates and springs. Then the bike ran perfect... for about a week. I tried to start it one day and it backfired each time I tried to start it. I figured that the carbs probably needed to be cleaned since it had been sitting so long. So when I was pulling off the carbs, I noticed that the airfilter was in pieces and a very small amount had been sucked through (the airfilters on these are stupid pieces of oiled foam.) I guess the airfilter was not good afterall. So then I KNEW I had to clean the carbs. I pulled the carbs and did a complete overhaul (I ended up pulling the carbs and cleaning them again just to make sure) and replaced the sparkplugs and airfilter. The bike started fine but now (Heres my real problem.) Between 7-9 thousand RPM the bike bogs down and has no power, it also happens at 3000rpm at certain throttle settings. The bike picks up ok and goes through all the gears (maybe a slight loss of power.) But it just wont sit at these certain RPM's. I noticed the bike was running rich (black smoke at high rpm and black exhaust tip) and that plugs 1 and 4 were fouled. So I sync'd the carbs and replaced the plugs again... but still same problem.

My thoughts from here are float level adjustment or maybe a piece of the airfilter is preventing a valve from closing all the way. Please help...

THANKS!

any air filter pieces are probably burned out by now. Most people would check float height at the same time the carbs are off. Then the resynch with the new plugs.

Welcome to KF!

Do I need to buy the special tool for that? or is there a way to make one. What puts the floats out of adjustment?
