i have a 81' 550 ltd that i just put a new starter motor in...the starter works fine but it is turning the flywheel and it just free spins...any one have a clue? there was nothing wrong just before i changed starer motors...

 

Why did you replace the starter if nothing was wrong? Maybe it failed for a reason. Check to make sure the starter motor is actually engaging something. Then, if so, pull off the side cover and start looking for loose stuff. This is a "knee-bone connected to the shin bone connected to the ankle bone" thing. Follow the trail.
