Default 1996 zx-6r clutch problem

hey, i found a 1996 zx6-r for sale. the problem is the clutch is actually grinding along the inside of the clutch cover. its hitting the cover as if it the clutch is pushed out. when he bought it he put a new clutch in it, he had his mechanic do it. his mechanic said its possibly a tranny issue. does anyone have any idea what could be going on? thanks for the help.

nahh.. no way.. not a tranny issue..

the clutch basket nut is probably loose, and the "mechanic" never inspected it.

thats the first thing i'd check.. inspect the entire slipper sub clutch for all the fasteners and spacers, then move out to the main nut, then the 5 (or 6) bolts that hold the pressure plate on the basket.

that alone may be the problem.. it'll be evident right off the bat.. try to tighten them first before teking them out just to rule this out, tho..

that large nut inside the clutch is ALWAYS overlooked for some reason tho..

i've seen it before..

if the input shaft moved THAT far to warrant the clutch assemble to hit the cover, the motor wouldn't even turn.. the gears would all be locked up..
