Default 1990 zx600r electrical issue please help!

I kreemed my tank and cleaned my carbs. The bike was running like it was brand new! I was pumped but then about 3 days after I put it all back together I was riding along and it just died like I hit the kill switch. I had to leave the bike but I went back the next day and it fired up and ran for about 20 min. before dieng. I figured it had somthing to do with fuel considering I was just messing with the fuel system. But becouse it just diedso quick I was confused. So I pulled it allapart again this timeI rebuilt the petcock It didnt help. It will run if I let it sit for a while but then it just dies and wont start. I put the multimeter to the coils and with the kill switch on I get 10.8 v from one and the other one acts crazy jumping all around. Any input would really help thank you.

I had a very similar problem and it was indeed one of the coils. I went ahead and changed both coils, I figured if one was bad the others not far behind it. The ingition wires are built into the coil pack on that right? Maybe you can take off the known good coil, change sides and see if the voltage reading still jumps.

So what is next? looks like you have a voltage drop to the coil that is fluctuating. Normally a relay issue or bad connection somewhere.

Thanks for the input I went to the local mecanic and filled him in, he said he was fairly certain it was the regulator/rectifier. I ponyed up for the $90 part and it comes in tomorrow. I hope thats it I dont have the cash to buy things I dont need. Ill keep you posted thanks.

Sorry I didnt get back to you guys earlier Ive been very busy at work. I also havnt road the bike a ton. I put 60 miles on it since the regulator was replaced and yesterday I had to move it to my parents becouse of the rain coming and it died have way there. I didnt have time to screw around I was late for work so I just put it in my work van. It seemed to be the same issue. Just died like I hit the kill switch. When I let it sit It fired up in the back of the van. I didnt have time to run it for a while but it seems like im back at square one. Could the stator not be making clean juice? Would that damage the regulator/rectifirer? Any input would help thanks.

Sounds like the bike is loosing spark. Would 1st check the main harness ground coming from the neg battery cable for loose connection or broken wire. If ok, would think most likely the igniter. Try tapping on the igniter with a rubber malot to see if unit stops. If so replace it. The part is a junk yard part only.
