86 zx600r tranny problem
I don't know if this belongs here or under the zzr600 topic so if it needs to be moved, sorry. But here's my issue. I have an 86 600r and it has 8400 some odd miles on it. Just the other day, I noticed a slight noise in the trans near the clutch. My buddy said he thinks it is a bearing noise. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or something to be looking for as I take it apart. I am hoping to only have to pull the clutch out, not split the trans case... Thanks,
Justin W

RE: 86 zx600r tranny problem
Well I just changed the oil about 500 miles ago from whatever crap was sitting in there for a couple years, to the Kawi 4 stroke oil. It was about a qt low, so I am assuming, with the help of my leaning, that is what caused the bearing noise, but it seems to only be one, and I hope I can get too it without splitting the case.

RE: 86 zx600r tranny problem
alright, I pulled some of the trans apart and I found a couple things. First was none of the bearings, either the needle at the clutch basket, or the bearing for the same shaft in the case, seemed to have any play or weird noises with them. The only main thing that concerns me, is that if you put the bike in gear (any) and hold the tire, you can spin the shaft the clutch basket bolts to about half a turn before it tries to turn the tire. I don't know if this is normal for this bike or not... But I figured I'd run it by anyone here to see if they have worked on any before. Thanks,
