Default Vulcan question

I am dead set on getting a used Vulcan 1500. Several bikes that I have looked at have had alot of extra add on features. I know that an air filter cover can easily be changed. One bike that I looked at, I doubt was really a 1500, even though the air filter cover had it printed on there. How is a sure fire way that I can know that the bike is really a 1500, and not a 900, or something less?

you should be able to look on the frame at the plate for where the serial number is and it should say what size in cc on there also
